FOX 46 is getting results for residents who say their neighborhoods are starting to look like a dump.
The complaints continue to come in against a trash company that’s letting the garbage pile up.
Residents who use Carolina Disposal haven’t had their trash picked up in weeks. For some, it’s even been a month.
FOX 46 is now working with State Representative Chaz Beasley to continue to get results.
“Something needs to be done,” said Customer Eric Butler.
Trash bags now overflow garbage cans on Tribal Drive in Charlotte.
“The situation is deplorable,” said Butler. “We have to keep our trash cans out every day. You don’t know when it’s going to get picked up.”
For residents of Catawba River Plantation, trash hasn’t been picked up for at least two weeks.
“Sometimes, you find trash blowing down the street– blowing down your neighbor’s yard– blowing into your yard,” said Butler.
“As you can see, looking at the neighborhood, there’s garbage everywhere,” said Nicole Jackson.
FOX 46 was first informed about the issue when a resident on McClure Road reached out.
“Thank you for getting involved,” said Lilian Byakutaga. “I think you’re our voice when all else fails.”
Since then, FOX 46 has been getting results– making calls to Carolina Disposal, writing emails, and even going by the office demanding answers.
“I’m glad you’re covering the story,” said NC Rep. Chaz Beasley. “Because so many people feel helpless right now.”
State Rep. Chaz Beasley is working with FOX 46 to get results. He submitted a letter to both the trash company and the attorney general’s office in hopes of launching an investigation.
“I think it’s important we get to the bottom of this,” he said. “It’s a public safety hazard at this point because it’s been so long.”
“We need someone to come get this trash,” said Jackson. “It’s a mess.”
FOX 46 reached out to Mecklenburg County to see what can be done.
